Michael Jackson Tribute

Tell us about your hero

The history of our community is replete with stories of extraordinary individuals who have been selfless in the service of others.
Stalwarts such as the venerable Rev. Charles Este, the founders of the Colored Women’s Club, Henry Langdon, and other unsung community heroes, have helped not only to build institutions and integrate newcomers to Canada, but also to mold lives.
Along the way, individuals like Benjamin White, Mrs. Pierre and Merle Arthur have opened their hearts and homes to ease the passage of life for those in need. There are many stories.
Today, there are still many do-gooders in our midst, inconspicuous in the task.
Our Community Heroes is an initiative designed to celebrate some of the folks who make a real difference to, and in, the community.
Your Community Heroes nominee could be an aged care worker who has gone an extra mile in looking after an elderly parent … a volunteer who coordinates a significant fundraising effort for a community group or cause … a community group stalwart who's clocked up decades of service to a group or a series of groups … A junior sports coach who turns up rain, hail and shine to teach and encourage and support … There are almost limitless examples!
Members of the community are invited to submit the names (including e-mail, facebook and other coordinates, etc.) and the stories of their favorite hero. All stories will be published in the Community Contact. Finally, some of the exceptional heroes from among the submissions will be honored in a special community celebration in the Spring of 2010.
